The ladies of Team SCA have completed their first transatlantic route, from Lanzarote to Newport, a very important step towards the upcoming Volvo Ocean Race, set to begin in October in Alicante Spain. The crossing went extremely well, and despite the fact that the boat encountered some severe conditions during the 3,750 mile speed test, no problems were reported on board.
Since Team SCA has a bit of a head start, the ladies are actually ahead of the other crews in terms of preparation and familiarity. Will this be enough to make them as competitive as the male crews? It looks likely.
