The bad weather that hit the North and Centre of Italy in the last few days caused a violent sea storm along the Adriatic coast which caused serious damage to boats.
Six boats which were still anchored at the Circolo Nautico in San Benedetto del Tronto were completely destroyed and others were damaged for costs of millions of euros.
The crafts, which were still moored at the exposed entrance of the seaport, sank hitting one another or the pylons because of the strong winds; the smallest boat was five metres long, the longest, eight.
The Board of Directors of the Circolo Nautico is meeting this evening to discuss the problem.
From the port of Ancona, tug boats with cranes have been dispatched to bring up the sunken boats, most of which belong to people living outside of the Marche.19 November 2013
